Kano Hisbah Bans Mobile Movie Download and Distribution Business

The Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across all 44 local government areas of the state, saying the decision is aimed at safeguarding public morality and upholding Islamic values.
The directive was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, in a message circulated via WhatsApp.
According to the board, the ban became necessary following reports that some operators were distributing pornographic films and other video materials considered contrary to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano State.
“The Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas of Kano State,” Aminuddeen said.
He disclosed that Hisbah officials have already been deployed across the state to ensure strict compliance with the directive through patrols and enforcement operations.
“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state. Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State,” he stated.
The Deputy Commander General also advised individuals engaged in the business to explore alternative lawful means of livelihood, stressing that the measure is intended to shield young people from harmful content and preserve the state’s moral standards.
He linked the rising cases of moral decline among youths to increasing exposure to indecent films and videos.
The Kano State Hisbah Board, which oversees the enforcement of Sharia-related regulations, has over the years introduced several policies aimed at promoting Islamic values and restricting activities or content considered inconsistent with the state’s religious and cultural principles.
