Atiku Blasts Tinubu, First Lady Over Abducted Oyo Pupils
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over the continued captivity of pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State.
In a statement released on Friday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused the Federal Government of failing to show enough urgency in rescuing the victims.
The former vice president said it was troubling that political activities and celebrations appeared to be taking priority while innocent schoolchildren and their teachers remained in the hands of kidnappers.
According to him, leadership should be measured not only by holding office but by showing empathy and seriousness during moments of national distress.
Atiku also faulted the First Lady, arguing that Nigerians expected her to take a stronger public stand in demanding the safe return of the abducted victims.
He questioned what he described as continued political celebrations, campaign-style gatherings, and the distribution of luxury vehicles at a time many families were suffering emotional trauma over the abduction.
The former vice president said the images of political festivities circulating publicly had worsened frustration among Nigerians, especially parents of the kidnapped pupils who have spent weeks in fear and uncertainty.
He further condemned what he called extravagant displays by public officials despite growing insecurity and economic hardship across the country.
Atiku warned that the increasing rate of kidnappings could further weaken public confidence in government if urgent action is not taken.
He called on the Federal Government to deploy all available security and intelligence resources to secure the immediate release of the abducted pupils and teachers and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The abduction of the pupils and teachers in Oyo State has continued to generate nationwide concern and renewed calls for stronger security measures across the country.
