Amnesty International Condemns Fadahunsi Over Alleged Call to Kill Accord Members

Amnesty International has strongly condemned Senator Francis Fadahunsi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Osun East Senatorial District, over remarks allegedly made during a campaign in which he instructed his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
The human rights organisation described the senator’s remarks as reckless and deliberate, warning that such statements could incite violence and undermine the peaceful conduct of the election.
Amnesty International said the comments appeared aimed at provoking a bloody electoral process in the state and urged Nigerian authorities to take immediate action against any form of advocacy of hatred capable of inciting hostility, discrimination or violence.
The organisation called on authorities at all levels to urgently denounce statements advocating hate or violence, whether made publicly, online or through other platforms.
It also urged political parties to reject incitement and distance themselves from hateful or inflammatory remarks made by their members or supporters.
“We condemn all incitements to violence in the strongest possible terms and demand action by federal and local authorities to counter this surge ahead of elections,” the organisation said.
Amnesty International further called for Senator Fadahunsi to be held accountable over the alleged remarks, stressing the need for authorities to act decisively against political rhetoric capable of triggering violence during elections.
The August 15 Osun governorship election is expected to attract significant political attention, with stakeholders repeatedly urged to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
