By Yusuf Gwandu

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has led a delegation of party leaders and governors to the Sultanate Council in Sokoto to seek the blessing, prayers and guidance of the Sultan of Sokoto ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation included the governors of Kebbi, Nasir Idris; Sokoto, Ahmad Aliyu; and Zamfara, Dauda Lawal, as the campaign council begins preparations for nationwide mobilisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and other APC candidates.

Yari, who represents Zamfara Central in the Senate, said the visit was intended to formally commence the council’s engagement and mobilisation activities ahead of the elections.

Speaking at the Sultan’s Palace, the APC Campaign Council Director-General said the delegation considered it important to begin its activities by visiting the Sultanate Council because of the traditional institution’s significant role in promoting peace, unity and national cohesion.

He said the council was seeking the royal blessing, prayers and fatherly guidance of the Sultan, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

Yari also pledged that the campaign would be anchored on peace, issue-based engagement, inclusivity and the collective interest of Nigerians.

He urged APC supporters and stakeholders to remain united and focused as the party prepares for the elections, while highlighting what he described as the Tinubu administration’s commitment to development, economic reforms, infrastructure and security.

The former Zamfara State governor expressed optimism that the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms would continue to produce positive results and lay a stronger foundation for sustainable development.

Also speaking, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu commended the Sultan for his fatherly leadership and continued contributions to peace, unity and national development.

Aliyu said the decision by the campaign council to make the Sultanate Council its first point of call was deliberate, given the Sultan’s standing as a respected traditional and spiritual leader whose influence extends beyond Sokoto State.

The governors of Kebbi and Zamfara also acknowledged the Sultan’s contributions to peace, unity and national development.

Responding, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, welcomed the delegation and expressed delight over the visit.

The Sultan assured the delegation of his continued prayers for leaders entrusted with the responsibility of governing the country.

He urged political actors to prioritise the welfare, security and unity of Nigerians and conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly throughout the electoral process.

The Sultan also prayed for the success of the campaign council’s mobilisation efforts.

The visit marks the beginning of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council’s broader mobilisation and engagement activities ahead of the general elections, with the council seeking to consolidate support for President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and other APC candidates.
