The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has stepped up its anti corruption advocacy in Sokoto State with a sensitization programme for secondary school students ahead of the 2026 African Union Anti Corruption Day.
The awareness campaign, held at Government Girls’ College, Sokoto, convened together students from Government Girls’ College Sokoto, Government Girls’ College Raba and Government Girls’ College Bodinga. It was organised in line with this year’s African Union Anti-Corruption Day theme, “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti Corruption Action Across Africa.”
Addressing the participants, the Principal of Government Girls’ College, Sokoto, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar Gobir, praised the ICPC for taking the campaign to schools, describing the initiative as a timely effort to instil values of honesty, discipline and patriotism in young Nigerians.
Representing the Resident Anti Corruption Commissioner, Deputy Superintendent Abdullahi Ibrahim Aliyu urged the students to make integrity their guiding principle, stressing that lasting change begins with personal responsibility.
He said corruption can only be defeated when individuals choose to do the right thing at all times, encouraging the students to become role models who reject dishonest practices and promote transparency in their communities.
Aliyu further reminded the students that true success is measured by character and integrity rather than material possessions, urging them to build lives worthy of emulation.
To reinforce the campaign, the Commission presented Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to the participating schools to support continuous anti-corruption education.
The sensitisation programme attracted 376 students and forms part of the ICPC’s broader efforts to promote ethical values among young people ahead of the African Union Anti-Corruption Day commemorated annually on July 11.
