The Sokoto Central Zonal Women Leader of the African Democratic Congress ADC, Haj Asma’u Yahaya, popularly known as Yar Baba, has resigned from the party and announced her defection to the All Progressives Congress APC.

In a resignation letter dated July 10, 2026, and addressed to the ADC State Chairman in Sokoto, Asma’u Yahaya said her resignation takes immediate effect, bringing an end to her membership of the party and her role as the Sokoto Central Zonal Women Leader.

She explained that the decision followed careful thought and consultation, adding that she had resolved to continue her political journey alongside the former Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Mallam Sa’idu Umar.

According to her, Sa’idu Umar’s leadership, vision and commitment to the development of Sokoto State inspired her decision.

Yahaya stated that, in line with Sa’idu Umar’s recent political move, she had also decided to join the APC, expressing confidence that the move would provide her with a greater opportunity to continue serving the people of Sokoto State.

She expressed appreciation to the ADC leadership and members for the confidence reposed in her during her tenure, noting that the relationships and experiences she gained in the party would always be cherished.

The resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the recent defection of Mallam Sa’idu Umar and several of his supporters to the APC.
