Tambuwal Urges Tinubu to Prioritise Security, Donates ₦20 Million to Victims of Bandit Attacks in Sokoto

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to place national security above political activities, insisting that protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains the foremost constitutional responsibility of government.

Tambuwal made the appeal on Thursday during a visit to Bodinga Local Government Area, where he met with victims of recent bandit attacks and internally displaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge in a temporary camp.

Addressing the victims and community leaders, the former governor expressed deep concern over the continued wave of violent attacks across Sokoto State and other parts of the country, describing the situation as tragic and unacceptable.

“We came to Bodinga to identify with our people, condole with families who lost loved ones and sympathise with everyone affected by these unfortunate attacks. We share your grief and remain deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in Sokoto State and across Nigeria,” Tambuwal said.

The senator stressed that security should be the immediate priority of the Federal Government, urging President Tinubu and his administration to concentrate on confronting insecurity rather than engaging in early political campaigns.

“The first responsibility of any government, as clearly stated in the Constitution, is the protection of lives and property. I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give greater attention to governance, especially the fight against insecurity. Politics can wait, but the safety of Nigerians cannot.”

Tambuwal noted that meaningful development can only take place in a peaceful environment.
“Roads, bridges and other infrastructure will have little meaning if citizens cannot travel safely or sleep peacefully in their homes. Security must come first because development thrives only where there is peace.”

Reaffirming his position on security reforms, Tambuwal defended his consistent support for the establishment of state police, explaining that his backing was based solely on the need to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

“I have always supported state police because I believe every sincere initiative aimed at restoring peace deserves support. Even as a member of the opposition, I remain convinced that improving security should rise above partisan considerations.”

As part of his humanitarian intervention, the former governor announced a donation of ₦10 million to victims at the Bodinga IDP camp and another ₦10 million to displaced persons in Tureta Local Government Area, bringing the total assistance to ₦20 million.

He said the intervention would complement ongoing relief efforts while urging relevant agencies to continue supporting communities affected by banditry.

Tambuwal also prayed for those who lost their lives in the attacks and asked Allah to grant speedy recovery to the injured, comfort bereaved families and restore lasting peace to Sokoto State and the nation.
