Police Recover 329 Rustled Cattle, AK-47 in Zamfara Bandits’ Hideout Raid

The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against banditry, recovering 329 rustled cattle, 175 sheep, an AK-47 rifle, and live ammunition during a joint security operation in Gummi Local Government Area.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday by operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with military personnel at the Gambanda Forest, a known hideout for criminal elements.

DSP Yazid said security operatives engaged heavily armed bandits in a fierce gun battle during the raid. He noted that the superior firepower and coordinated efforts of the security team forced the suspects to abandon their activities and flee into the forest, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

Items recovered during the operation included 329 rustled cows, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle, and fifteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying efforts against banditry and other criminal activities across the state.

He assured residents that security agencies remain determined to restore lasting peace in Zamfara and urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to support ongoing security operations.

GaskiyaCast reports that the latest recovery is part of sustained efforts by security forces to curb cattle rustling and dismantle bandit networks operating in the North-West region.
