Retired General Dies in Bandits’ Captivity, Katsina Government Announces
The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, describing the incident as a tragic loss to his family, the state, and the nation.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.
The government noted that despite sustained efforts by the state authorities and security agencies to secure his release, the rescue mission ended in tragedy.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep sorrow over the development, describing it as a dark moment and a reminder of the need for greater collective action against criminal elements threatening peace and security.
The governor extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured residents that the state government remains committed to working with the Federal Government and security agencies to combat banditry and bring those responsible to justice.
The late Major General Rabe Abubakar was remembered for his service to the nation, with prayers offered for the peaceful repose of his soul.
