BREAKING: 17 Lawmakers Dump ADC for NDC Ahead of 2027

No fewer than 17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), in a development that underscores the intensifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defections were formally announced on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary session, signaling a significant shift in the composition of the lower legislative chamber.

Among those who moved to the NDC are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, Munachim Umezuruike, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.

In a related development, Leke Abejide also announced his defection from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The wave of defections is the latest in a series of political shifts within the country’s party system, as key actors reposition themselves ahead of the next general elections.

Observers say the growing movement of lawmakers between parties may significantly influence the balance of power in the National Assembly and shape coalition dynamics in the lead-up to 2027.
