Tinubu Nominates Tegbe as Minister of Power

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination, which has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly for screening, follows the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience in fiscal policy, economic reform, and institutional governance across both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal reforms and governance transformation.

He currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates engagements aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China, particularly under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Tegbe is also known for his involvement in Nigeria’s power sector reforms, having worked closely with key institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company on regulatory and institutional improvements.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the nomination is expected to further strengthen ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

If confirmed, Tegbe is expected to leverage his extensive expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved electricity outcomes for Nigerians.
