Kano Assembly Confirms Murtala Garo as Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State after he successfully passed the screening process conducted by lawmakers.

The confirmation was announced during Monday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore, following the presentation and adoption of the report of an adhoc committee set up to assess the nominee.

Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, said the nomination of Garo came after the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo.

He explained that the screening exercise was conducted in accordance with the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to approve a replacement whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of deputy governor.

According to the committee, Garo was thoroughly examined on his educational qualifications, professional background, knowledge of governance, and plans to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The lawmakers noted that the nominee showed a strong understanding of the duties of the office and presented clear ideas to assist the government in delivering its agenda.

Following the adoption of the committee’s recommendation, Speaker Falgore called for a voice vote, and members unanimously approved the nomination.

The development was also confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Ibrahim Adam, who announced the approval in a statement.
