CAN’s Rejoinder Unnecessary — Sultan’s Media Team
The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has described as unnecessary the recent rejoinder issued by the Christian Association of Nigeria over the planned foundation ceremony of an ecumenical chapel at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
In a statement signed by Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the team, said an official invitation card was sent to the Sultan, requesting his attendance as Royal Father of the Day.

It added that the invitation also listed Godswill Akpabio as Distinguished Guest of Honour, while Oluremi Tinubu was named Mother of the Day.
Earlier, Christian Association of Nigeria had stated that the document causing public confusion originated from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stressing that it neither issued nor approved any invitation to the Sultan to play any role in the event.
However, the Sultan’s media team expressed concern over CAN’s denial of the invitation, describing the move as unnecessary since the Sultan did not seek an invitation to attend the ceremony.
The statement added that the Sultan’s presence at a Christian event would promote interfaith peace and harmony, especially given his role as Co-Chairman of the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council.
The team urged CAN to focus its public communication on promoting peaceful coexistence and national unity among Nigerians of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds.
