We Left PDP Because Wike Sold the Party to Tinubu — Former Kebbi PDP Secretary

By Yusuf Gwandu

The former Secretary of the Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, has disclosed that members of the state executive committee of the party are set to resign en masse, alleging that the PDP has been “sold” to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kalgo, who resigned from the party on Monday, made this known while speaking with Channels Television’s correspondent in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

According to him, during the convention that produced Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, they boycotted the exercise because of a court order restraining the convention. He explained that they later attended the convention led by Nyesom Wike because there was no legal restriction preventing it.

He said they were, however, shocked when Wike openly endorsed the presidency of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that they initially believed the endorsement reflected only Wike’s personal position.

Kalgo added that they later discovered that many of those elected at the convention were also aligned with the same position, a development he said the Kebbi PDP executives could not accept as members of an opposition party.

“I can assure you that after the convention, the state executive committee unanimously agreed to leave the party because we discovered that the party had already been sold,” he said.

He further lamented that the PDP was a party they had nurtured for decades, expressing disappointment over its current direction.

“This is the party we built for decades, but look at where we have found ourselves. I assure you that all the party executives, from the chairman downward, are resigning. We will look for a formidable platform through which we can continue to oppose the APC-led administration,” Kalgo stressed.
