Pressure Mounts On Bauchi Governor to Join ADC
According to unconfirmed reports, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, is reportedly set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development is said to follow extensive consultations with party stakeholders, political allies, and key government appointees across Bauchi State. Sources indicate that preparations have been concluded for the governor, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, to formally exit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although no official statement has been issued by the governor or his aides, insiders suggest that the move is part of a broader political realignment ahead of the next election cycle. Observers believe such a defection, if confirmed, could significantly reshape the political landscape in Bauchi State and beyond, given Governor Mohammed’s influence within the PDP and among northern political blocs.
Meanwhile, a high-level delegation of ADC members, reportedly dispatched by the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with Governor Mohammed. The delegation is said to be led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
The outcome of the meeting remains undisclosed at the time of filing this report, but sources familiar with the discussions describe them as “strategic” and “far-reaching.” Political analysts say the engagement may be aimed at finalizing modalities for the governor’s potential defection, as well as negotiating terms that could strengthen the ADC’s foothold in Bauchi State.
As the situation continues to unfold, stakeholders within both the PDP and ADC are closely monitoring developments, while awaiting an official confirmation or rebuttal from Governor Mohammed.
