Court Rejects Kano Deputy Governor’s Bid to Stop Impeachment
The Federal High Court has refused an application for an interim injunction filed by Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, seeking to halt ongoing impeachment proceedings initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Delivering the ruling on March 25, 2026, Justice S. M. Shaibu held that the applicant failed to meet the legal requirements necessary for the grant of an interim order through an ex-parte motion.
The court subsequently directed the Deputy Governor to serve all relevant court processes on the respondents to allow them to respond appropriately.
In a related development, the Kano State House of Assembly had earlier secured an interim order on March 11, 2026, restraining the Deputy Governor from taking any action capable of obstructing the Assembly from carrying out its constitutional duties under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which governs impeachment proceedings.
