Governor Ahmed Aliyu Donates Vehicle to NUJ, Reassures Media Collaboration
The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has donated an official vehicle to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, as part of efforts to strengthen partnership with media practitioners in the state.
The donation was announced during a special Iftar held on Thursday at the Government House in Sokoto, bringing together members of the NUJ, social media influencers, and top government officials.
The gathering provided a platform for dialogue on improving cooperation between government and both traditional and digital media stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, NUJ Chairman Usman Mohammed Binji commended the governor for his developmental strides across key sectors, including education, healthcare, security, and rural development.
He highlighted ongoing projects such as the construction of major markets in Bodinga Local Government Area as vital to boosting the state’s economy.
Binji also lauded the prompt payment of salaries under the current administration and urged other state governments to emulate such people-oriented policies. He, however, presented key requests, including the provision of an official vehicle, rehabilitation of the NUJ Press Centre, and inclusion of NUJ leadership in relevant government committees.
Also speaking, Abdullahi Hashimu, Chairman of the APC Social Media Organisation, praised the governor for acknowledging the growing influence of digital media in governance and public engagement.
In his response, Governor Aliyu reaffirmed the importance of both conventional and social media in promoting transparency and accountability. He approved the immediate donation of the vehicle and assured that other requests would be considered through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The governor further pledged to uphold press freedom and sustain collaboration with journalists while promising to intensify efforts in improving security and the welfare of citizens.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Appreciation to Governor Aliyu by the NUJ in recognition of his support for media development in the state. Prayers were also offered for peace, unity, and continued progress in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
