Kano Govt Tightens Eid Durbar Plans Amid Security Concerns, Lists Approved Activities
The Kano State Government has announced strict guidelines for the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebrations, citing intelligence reports of planned attempts to disrupt public peace across the state.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said the decision followed security briefings from the State Security Council pointing to possible efforts by some individuals to instigate unrest during the Sallah festivities.
Authorities stressed their commitment to preserving Kano’s cultural heritage while prioritizing the safety of lives and property.
After consultations with the Kano Emirate Council, the government approved a scaled-down lineup of traditional Durbar activities:Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar): To be led by Muhammad Sanusi II, beginning at Kofar Mata Eid Ground and ending at the Emir’s Palace; Hawan Nasarawa: To hold in a modified format without horse riding; Hawan Daushe: Suspended for this year, while also Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi are suspended for security reasons.
Security agencies have been placed on high alert, with directives to enforce compliance and prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the celebrations.
The government urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate fully with security operatives to ensure a peaceful Sallah.
Meanwhile, arrangements linked to the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, were also highlighted. His camp is understood to have maintained plans for traditional Durbar activities, including horse-riding processions typically associated with Hawan Nasarawa and other Sallah events.
However, Gaskiyacast reports that, these activities contrast with the state government’s directive restricting or suspending several horse-based displays in the interest of public safety.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration and extended Sallah greetings to Muslims across the state and beyond.
