Two Sokoto Pilgrims Die in Makkah After Completing 2026 Hajj

The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has confirmed the death of two female pilgrims from the state in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, after the successful completion of the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The State Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sodangi Achida, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Makkah.

According to him, the deceased pilgrims were identified as Ladi Umar from Bodinga Local Government Area and Hadiza Umar from Yabo Local Government Area.

Alhaji Sodangi Acida conveyed the condolences of the Sokoto State Government to the families of the deceased and prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus.

Speaking on the return journey of pilgrims, the Deputy Amirul Hajj stated that the first batch of Sokoto pilgrims is scheduled to depart Saudi Arabia for Nigeria on June 14, 2026. He explained that the return flights would follow the principle of “first to arrive, first to depart.”

He also advised pilgrims to strictly comply with approved luggage regulations, stressing that each pilgrim must ensure that their luggage does not exceed the stipulated 32-kilogram limit per bag.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar JJ, expressed appreciation to the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, for his unwavering support and commitment to the welfare of Sokoto pilgrims throughout the Hajj exercise.

He further commended members of the state government delegation, the chairman and board members of the agency, staff, and pilgrims for their cooperation and dedication, which contributed to the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj operations.
