President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), describing the 4.43 per cent growth recorded in the second quarter of 2026 as encouraging.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, the Q2 2026 GDP growth increased from the 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

The report showed growth across key sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, and services, with the service sector maintaining its position as the largest contributor to Nigeria’s aggregate GDP.

In nominal terms, Nigeria’s GDP stood at ₦119.27 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, representing an 18.43 per cent increase from the ₦100.7 trillion recorded in Q2 2025.

Reacting to the figures, President Tinubu said the latest economic data came at an important time, stressing that his administration’s reforms were beginning to produce visible results.

The President said his government had spent the past three years implementing what he described as necessary but difficult reforms to stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity.

“Now the economy is stabilised, and we have laid the foundation for a prosperous nation. We didn’t do the reforms to create challenges, but to ensure prosperity reaches all our people,” Tinubu said.

He listed improvements in Nigeria’s trade balance, foreign reserves, credit rating, infrastructure development, oil and gas production and investment as evidence of progress under his administration.

Tinubu also highlighted the absence of prolonged strikes in Nigerian universities, the student loan scheme administered through NELFUND and affordable credit programmes for civil servants through CreditCorp.

The President further assured Nigerians that his administration would intensify efforts to address the economic difficulties facing vulnerable citizens.

He said measures would be introduced in the coming weeks to provide cheaper transportation, increase food production and implement relief programmes targeted at communities across the country.

“Under our watch, the economy is on the irreversible path to experience even more growth that all homes will feel at the dining table and in their pockets,” Tinubu said.

He added that the government would remain focused on translating improved macroeconomic performance into better living conditions for Nigerians, while ensuring that the progress recorded remained sustainable.
