Tambuwal Drags Sokoto Govt to Court Over Inquiry Report
Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has instituted a legal action against the Sokoto State Government over the alleged non-release of the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into his administration.
The suit, filed through his counsel, U.O. Sule, SAN, is numbered SS/133/2026 and was lodged before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court 6.
Named as defendants are Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu; the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry.
Tambuwal is challenging what he described as the failure or refusal of the state government and the commission to furnish him with a copy of the report despite the conclusion of the commission’s proceedings.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry was established by the Sokoto State Government to investigate activities, transactions and other matters concerning the administration of Tambuwal, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023.
The commission was headed by Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, a former Chief Judge of Gombe State.
Through the suit, Tambuwal is seeking an order compelling the defendants to release the commission’s report to him.
He maintained that obtaining the report would enable him to ascertain the findings and conclusions reached by the commission following its investigation.
The legal action has consequently shifted the disagreement over the withheld report to the courtroom, where the state government and other defendants are expected to respond to Tambuwal’s demand.
The Sokoto State High Court has fixed November 9, 2026, for judgment in the case.
