The Sokoto State Government has commenced a fumigation exercise across schools under the State Ministry of Science and Technology to protect students and teachers from mosquitoes and other harmful insects.

The exercise was flagged off on Wednesday at Nagarta College, Sokoto, by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Professor Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa.

Speaking after the flag-off, Sifawa said the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to improve the learning environment and safeguard the health and wellbeing of students across the state.

He explained that the fumigation would target mosquitoes, cockroaches and other harmful insects capable of posing health risks to students and teachers.

The commissioner said the exercise was also in line with his nine-point agenda for advancing education in Sokoto State, stressing that quality education could not be achieved without ensuring the health and safety of learners.

According to him, Nagarta College serves as the first phase of the exercise, which will subsequently be extended to other science and technical schools across the state.

Sifawa reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing sanitation and health-related interventions in schools under its supervision.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Hadiza Galadima, directors and other senior officials.

Students and teachers of Nagarta College welcomed the initiative and commended the state government and the ministry for prioritising a safer and healthier school environment.
