Sokoto Police Impound 32 Vehicles, Activate Mobile Court Over Plate Number Violations
The Sokoto State Police Command has impounded 32 vehicles during a statewide enforcement operation targeting motorists driving without number plates, using covered plate numbers, or committing related traffic offenses.
The operation was carried out in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening security and curbing crimes involving unregistered or improperly identified vehicles.

To ensure immediate enforcement of the law, the Command activated a mobile court presided over by Chief Magistrate Isah Idris Marafa. Several offenders were prosecuted on the spot and sanctioned with fines and other penalties in accordance with relevant legal provisions.

Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, personally supervised the exercise and reiterated the importance of proper vehicle identification in combating crime.

According to the police commissioner, vehicles without valid registration numbers or with concealed plate numbers have increasingly been used by criminal elements, making strict enforcement necessary for public safety.

He urged residents of the state to comply with traffic regulations, obtain proper vehicle registration, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to enhance security across the state.

CP Shaffa further disclosed that the enforcement exercise would continue across all local government areas of Sokoto State until full compliance is achieved, adding that the mobile court would sit regularly as part of the Command’s strategy to sustain the crackdown.
The Sokoto State Police Command advised motorists yet to register their vehicles or renew their number plates to do so promptly to avoid sanctions.
