Sokoto Education Commissioner Honoured as North-West’s Best

The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has been selected to receive the Award of Excellence as the Best Commissioner for Education in the NorthWest geopolitical zone.
In a statement, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education said the honour recognises Prof. Ala’s outstanding leadership, commitment and contributions to the advancement of education in Sokoto State and across the North West.
The ministry noted that the award followed recommendations by the National Award Committee, which acknowledged the commissioner’s exceptional efforts in driving educational reforms and promoting quality learning.
According to the statement, the award will be presented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during the grand finale of the 2026 Democracy Day Anniversary President Inter-Senior Secondary School Debate Championship slated for August 20, 2026, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event is expected to take place at the Rivers State Ministry of Education, with Governor Siminalayi Fubara serving as the chief host.
The notification conveying the award was signed by the Chairman of the National Advisory Board and President of School Debate Nigeria, Hon. Muhammad Usman.
Congratulating the commissioner, the ministry described the recognition as a reflection of his unwavering dedication to educational excellence, innovation and human capital development, while reaffirming its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at strengthening basic and secondary education in Sokoto State.
