Sokoto CAN Calls for Urgent Action on Insecurity in The State
Christian Association of Nigeria CAN in Sokoto State has appealed to both the Federal Government and the Sokoto State Government to intensify efforts in addressing the growing insecurity affecting the state.
Speaking at an Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace event in Sokoto, the State Chairmanof CAN, Kayode Moses James, expressed concern over the persistent wave of banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks troubling communities.
He said the situation has continued to create fear and hardship among residents, cutting across ethnic and religious boundaries, while also disrupting farming activities and displacing families.
James lamented that many lives have been lost leaving widows, orphans, and vulnerable groups to bear the burden of the crisis. He stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains the primary duty of the government, urging authorities to adopt more proactive and strategic measures.
Despite the challenges, he commended residents for their courage and unity, noting the successful and peaceful gathering of Christians from across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The CAN chairman also called on citizens to uphold the values of peace and tolerance, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in restoring stability.
He further urged the media to promote balanced reporting that fosters unity, while encouraging prayers for victims and hope for lasting peace in affected communities.
The Easter event, themed “Powerful and Timeless”focused on prayers for peace, unity, and national stability amid ongoing security concerns.
