Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Recover Weapons in Sokoto

Troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a terrorist attack and recovered high calibre weapons and motorcycles in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Sokoto.
Osoba said the operation was conducted on Saturday as troops advanced through identified terrorist threat enclaves, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya Forest axis.
He said troops made contact with the terrorists within the Magarya Forest and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their positions and flee into the forest.
“Upon making contact with the terrorists within the Magarya forest enclave, troops engaged the terrorist elements with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into the deep forest” he said.
According to him, follow-up operations and a thorough search of the area led to the recovery of arms, ammunition and mobility assets.
The recovered items included one PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and other logistical and miscellaneous items.
Osoba said the troops had maintained a strong operational posture and continued to dominate the area to ensure the security of surrounding communities.
