Police Foil Bandits’ Attack in Sokoto, Neutralize Three Suspects, Recover AK-47 Rifle

The Sokoto State Police Command has successfully foiled a bandits’ attack on Bodinga Village in Bodinga Local Government Area, neutralizing three suspected bandits and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the incident occurred late Wednesday night following a distress call that armed bandits were attacking the community.

The Command said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and Anti-Kidnapping Unit were immediately deployed to the area, where they engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

The superior firepower and tactical response of the security operatives forced the bandits to retreat into a nearby forest. A subsequent search operation led to the discovery of three neutralized suspects.

Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle and a magazine loaded with 25 rounds of live ammunition.

The Police confirmed that no civilian or security personnel casualties were recorded during the operation.

Meanwhile, confidence-building patrols have been intensified across the area, while neighboring police divisions have been placed on high alert to track down fleeing suspects, particularly those who may have sustained gunshot wounds.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, urged residents of Bodinga and surrounding communities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or persons with gunshot injuries to the nearest security post.

The Command assured residents of its commitment to sustaining the fight against banditry and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Sokoto State.
