The Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Shaffa, has assured residents of the command’s commitment to strengthening security and protecting lives and property as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Shaffa gave the assurance in a goodwill message to the people of Sokoto State and Nigerians, issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i.
The Commissioner described the anniversary as an important occasion for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s 66 year journey, the sacrifices made by the nation’s founding fathers and the resilience demonstrated by citizens in the face of various challenges.
He said the Sokoto State Police Command remained committed to promoting peace, unity and national progress, while continuously improving its security operations across the state.
According to him, the Command has intensified its efforts to confront banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities confronting the state and the wider region.
Shaffa said the Command would continue to rely on intelligence led policing, operational strategies and stronger collaboration with communities to improve the security situation and create an environment where residents can go about their legitimate activities without fear.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police and other relevant security agencies, stressing that effective security requires cooperation between security personnel and members of the public.
The Commissioner also appealed to citizens to uphold peace, tolerance and mutual respect, particularly during the Independence celebrations.
He advised residents to celebrate responsibly and remain security conscious throughout the period.
