2027: North Will Deliver Over 70% of Votes for Tinubu, Yilwatda Says

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure more than 70 per cent of votes cast in northern Nigeria during the 2027 presidential election.

Yilwatda made the prediction on Saturday in Abuja while speaking at the unveiling of the Arewa for Asiwaju campaign headquarters and the formal inauguration of the northern support group’s campaign structure by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The APC chairman urged voters across the North to rally behind Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing infrastructure development, political appointments and other programmes implemented by the president’s administration.

He highlighted several projects across the region, including road construction, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, irrigation dams, railway development, healthcare initiatives and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as evidence of the administration’s efforts to address the needs of northern communities.

According to him, the administration’s interventions have reached all geopolitical zones in northern Nigeria, providing sufficient reasons for the region to support Tinubu for a second term.

Yilwatda acknowledged that the president had implemented numerous projects across the country, adding that the scale of the interventions made it difficult to list them all.

He subsequently moved a motion calling on the North to support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027, urging the region to mobilise substantial electoral support for the ruling party.

Similarly, Vice President Shettima expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election, declaring that the North had demonstrated strong support for the president’s second-term ambition.

Shettima attributed the region’s backing to his leadership approach, which he described as inclusive and progressive, during the administration’s first three years.

However, the predictions of victory by the APC leadership have been challenged by the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO).

The organisation, which is campaigning for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), expressed confidence that its candidate would defeat Tinubu in the 12 battleground states identified by the president, as well as other states across the federation.

The competing claims highlight the growing political contest ahead of the 2027 general election, with the ruling APC seeking to consolidate its support base in the North while opposition figures position themselves to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
