Police Arrest Six, Recover Stolen Motorcycles, Phones in Sokoto Crackdown
The Sokoto State Police Command says it has arrested six suspects and recovered stolen motorcycles, mobile phones and a sewing machine in separate intelligence-led operations targeting criminal syndicates involved in housebreaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
The Command, in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said operatives of the Strike Force carried out the operations following reports of burglary and motorcycle theft in different parts of the state.
According to the statement, detectives arrested three suspects in connection with a burglary reported in the Rumbukawa area, where hoodlums allegedly broke into a residence and stole a sewing machine, a power bank, 13 mobile phones of different brands, and ₦50,750 in cash.
Police said one of the suspects, Anas Bello, was apprehended while attempting to sell the stolen sewing machine at the Sokoto Central Market. His arrest led to the arrest of Bello Sambo, who was found with three stolen mobile phones, and Murtala Sambo, from whom another stolen phone was recovered.
The Command added that two suspected masterminds, identified as Kabiru, also known as Alhaji, and Muji, remain at large, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
In a separate operation, the police arrested three suspects over the theft of three motorcycles reported by residents of the Alkammawa area.
The suspects, identified as Mubarak Nasiru (alias Dan Bahago), Muh’d Bello (alias Malaga), and Ismail Aminu (alias Anda), were arrested during a tactical patrol along the Alkammawa–Maniru Road.
Police said the suspects confessed to carrying out the theft with two accomplices still on the run and also identified other members of the network allegedly involved in disposing of the stolen motorcycles.
The Command disclosed that two of the stolen motorcycles have been traced for recovery, while efforts are continuing to recover the third.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Hassan Hayatu Shaffa, commended the Strike Force for what he described as professionalism and intelligence-driven policing.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime, warning criminals to abandon unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring them that all information received would be treated confidentially.
