NWUS Shines as NUC Grants Full Accreditation to Key Programmes

Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS) has recorded a major academic breakthrough as the National Universities Commission (NUC) granted full accreditation to most of its programmes following the October/November 2025 accreditation exercise.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, announced the development during a press conference held on Wednesday at the university’s Senate Chambers, describing the outcome as a “significant milestone” in the institution’s growth.

According to him, the accreditation results reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence, quality teaching, and continuous institutional development.

The NUC, led by Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, had visited the institution in late 2025 to assess its academic standards in line with its regulatory mandate.

Programmes Earn Full Accreditation

Prof. Bunza disclosed that in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Accounting and Public Administration secured full accreditation, while Business Administration received interim accreditation.

He added that the Faculty of Computing and Science recorded an impressive feat, with all four programmes—Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Software Engineering, earning full accreditation.

Similarly, programmes such as Library and Information Science, Special Education, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology were all granted full accreditation.

“This result is a clear indication that Northwest University, Sokoto is steadily building a strong academic foundation capable of producing graduates equipped with innovation, leadership, and skills for a competitive global environment,” he said.

Commitment to Improvement

While celebrating the success, the Vice Chancellor noted that the interim accreditation granted to Business Administration provides an opportunity for further improvement.

He reaffirmed the university’s resolve to strengthen teaching, research, and infrastructure to meet and exceed national standards.

Appreciation to Stakeholders

Prof. Bunza commended members of staff, students, and stakeholders for their dedication, noting that the achievement was a product of teamwork and sacrifice.

He also expressed gratitude to the Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for his continuous support and leadership.

The Vice Chancellor assured parents, students, and the general public that NWUS would continue to uphold high standards of discipline, integrity, and academic excellence.

“As we celebrate this achievement, we remain focused on the journey ahead. We will continue to invest in our people and programmes to serve our students and the nation better,” he added.

The accreditation success marks a new chapter for Northwest University, Sokoto, positioning it as a growing hub of quality education in Nigeria.
