NAF Deploys More Airpower to Sokoto in Renewed Push Against Terrorists
By Fahad Faruk Galadanchi
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has stepped up aerial operations against terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements across the North-West, with a stronger air presence deployed in Sokoto State to support ongoing joint security efforts.
The enhanced deployment is designed to increase surveillance, improve rapid response to security threats and provide sustained air support to ground troops operating across the Joint Operations Area.
The move is expected to place additional pressure on terrorists and bandits who take advantage of difficult terrain, remote locations and mobility to evade security forces. With its speed, range and precision, airpower enables security forces to identify and disrupt hostile movements while creating opportunities for ground troops to carry out follow-up operations.
The strengthened air presence also reinforces the need for effective coordination between air and ground forces as security agencies intensify efforts to counter terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in the region.
The initiative is part of the broader operational vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to maintain a professional, motivated and combat-ready Nigerian Air Force capable of delivering effective air support alongside sister Services and other security agencies.
The NAF said it would continue to employ airpower and joint operations to protect communities, disrupt criminal networks and support efforts to restore peace and stability across Sokoto State, the North-West and the country at large.
