Kebbe Council Pays Medical Bills, Distributes Relief to Attack Victims

The Kebbe Local Government Council in Sokoto State has provided relief materials to residents displaced by recent bandit attacks and shouldered the responsibility for the medical expenses of victims injured during the incidents.

The displaced residents are currently taking shelter in communities within Kebbe and neighbouring Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State following attacks that claimed lives and destroyed shops, vehicles and food supplies.

The intervention covers affected residents from Kebbe, Ungushi, Girkau, Umbutu, Asarara, Nasarawa and other communities impacted by the attacks.

Speaking on the intervention, the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Alhaji Musa Garba Kuchi, said the council had distributed 290 bags of 50kg garri, 25 bags of groundnut cake, kuli-kuli and 12 bags of salt to affected families.

He added that the council also supplied 200 insecticide-treated mosquito nets, 200 rubber mats, 200 plastic kettles, 200 plastic bowls and other essential items to the displaced residents.

Kuchi disclosed that 10 victims wounded in the attacks were currently receiving treatment at the state-owned Orthopaedic Hospital in Wamakko and other health facilities, with the local government paying their medical bills.

He said the council was also responsible for providing the patients with prescribed drugs and other medications, noting that the victims were responding positively to treatment.

“We are doing everything humanly possible to ensure the success of their treatment, including providing their routine feeding,” he said.

The chairman commended Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, for his prompt intervention following the attacks and for responding to the humanitarian and security needs of affected communities.

He said the relief assistance was designed to provide temporary succour to the displaced families while efforts continued towards restoring security and enabling them to return to their homes.

Some beneficiaries thanked the council for the assistance, saying the items had provided much-needed relief amid the difficult conditions they were facing.

They also appealed to the authorities to strengthen security in the affected communities and ensure the safe return of residents once the security situation improves.
