Insecurity: Oyo Government Imposes 16-Hour Curfew in 10 LGAs
The Oyo State Government has announced a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas as part of renewed efforts to address rising security concerns in the state.
The directive, approved by Seyi Makinde, takes effect on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will initially remain in force for 48 hours.
According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, residents of the affected areas are required to observe the curfew from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily.
The restriction applies to local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park. They include Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Igboho), Irepo (Kisi), Saki West (Saki), Saki East (Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Otu), Iseyin (Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Igbeti), and Atiba (Offa-Meta, Oyo).
The government’s decision comes weeks after protests erupted in the state following the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area in May, with authorities saying the curfew is aimed at strengthening security operations and restoring public confidence.
