House Minority Leadership Backs National Opposition Summit Ahead of 2027

The Minority Leadership of the House of Representatives has thrown its weight behind ongoing efforts by opposition political parties and political actors to forge a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position of the lawmakers emerged during a meeting between the G100 initiative and the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives in Abuja, where plans for a National Opposition Summit were unveiled.

Convener of the G100 initiative, Salihu Lukman, said the proposed summit would provide a platform for opposition parties, political leaders and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for building a broad and coordinated political alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential and legislative elections.
Lukman stressed that opposition parties must overcome their differences and work together if they are to present a credible and effective alternative to the APC.

He called for greater coordination among opposition forces across the country, saying a common political strategy was necessary to mobilise Nigerians and provide a strong alternative in the 2027 elections.
Responding on behalf of the House Minority Caucus, the Minority Leader, Hon. Fred Agbedi in company of the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, and other Minority leadership, expressed the lawmakers’ support for the G100 initiative and their readiness to collaborate with the coalition in advancing its objectives.

Agbedi’s position underscores the growing involvement of opposition lawmakers in efforts to strengthen cooperation among political parties and actors seeking to challenge the APC at the federal level.
The G100 coalition currently comprises the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The proposed National Opposition Summit is expected to bring together representatives of opposition parties, lawmakers, political leaders and other stakeholders to discuss areas of cooperation and develop a coordinated strategy for the 2027 elections.
The involvement and backing of the House Minority Leadership could provide additional political momentum to the opposition coalition, particularly as parties continue discussions on how to consolidate their structures, resolve differences and establish a broader platform capable of mounting a serious challenge to the APC.
The development comes amid increasing moves by opposition parties and political actors to build alliances ahead of 2027, with the proposed summit expected to serve as a major platform for dialogue and the coordination of opposition forces.
