Court Adjourns Yabo/Shagari APC Primary Election Dispute to July 19

The Federal High Court in Sokoto has adjourned proceedings in the legal challenge arising from the All Progressives Congress APC primary election for the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency until July 19, 2026.
The suit was instituted by Abubakar Umar Shagari, who is challenging the declaration of Prof. Musa Garba Maitafsir as the winner of the APC primary election conducted in the constituency.
During Thursday’s hearing, the trial judge, Justice Ahmad Muhamoud Gama, heard testimony from two witnesses presented by the plaintiff’s counsel, Barr. Y.Y. Gwazawa. The witnesses were subsequently cross-examined by lawyers representing the defendants, including Barr. Joseph Ochidi (SAN, Barr. Bashir Muazu Jodi, and Barr. I.Y Tijjani.
The witnesses, Aminu Musa and Murtala Shagari, adopted their written statements as evidence before the court.
Addressing journalists after the session, counsel to the 2nd defendant, the APC, Barr. Bashir Muazu Jodi, explained that the plaintiff had intended to call a third witness, but the witness was not present in court.
According to him, the plaintiff’s counsel requested an adjournment to enable the witness to testify, and the court granted the application.
The case is expected to continue on July 19, 2026, when further evidence may be presented.
