Atiku Condemns Killing of 32 in Sokoto, Demands Urgent Security Action

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the killing of 32 people in Ungushi community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, describing the incident as devastating and a painful reminder of Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

In a statement, Atiku expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and the people of Sokoto State, praying for the forgiveness of the deceased and strength for their loved ones to endure the loss.

He, however, said condolences were no longer enough, urging the Federal Government to take decisive action to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities.

“But condolences are no longer enough. How many more Nigerians must be slaughtered before this government treats the protection of human life as an emergency?” Atiku asked.

He said the recurrence of killings across the country was becoming increasingly frightening, arguing that a government entrusted with protecting citizens must do more than issue statements after deadly attacks.

Atiku called on the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, secure vulnerable communities and ensure that those responsible for the killings are arrested and brought to justice.

“The first duty of government is to protect life. Nigerians cannot continue to bury their loved ones while those entrusted with their security offer excuses,” he said.

He prayed for comfort for the people of Sokoto State and for the restoration of lasting peace across Nigeria.
