AGILE Project Reviews One Year of Progress, Charts New Strategies to Expand Girls’ Education in Sokoto
The Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has commenced its three-day Annual Stakeholders’ Review Workshop in Sokoto State, convening together government officials, education stakeholders, and development partners to assess achievements recorded over the past year, address implementation challenges, and develop practical strategies to strengthen project delivery and expand access to quality education for adolescent girls across the state.
At the workshop, the Sokoto State Government reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality education for adolescent girls through sustained investment, stronger stakeholder collaboration, and effective implementation of the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
The commitment was reiterated at the opening of the Annual Stakeholders’ Review Workshop organised by the Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation Component (Component 3.2) of the AGILE Project at SoulCare Garden Hotel, Kontagora Road, Sokoto.
The three-day workshop, held from July 15 to 17, 2026, is being conducted in collaboration with the Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education under the chairmanship of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala.
The workshop is designed to assess progress made by the AGILE Project over the past year, identify implementation challenges, and collectively develop practical strategies for improved project delivery aimed at expanding access to quality education for adolescent girls across Sokoto State.
Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his unwavering commitment to educational reforms and sustained investments that continue to strengthen the education sector and improve learning outcomes across the state.
Speaking at the event, the State Project Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari, described the annual review as an important platform for evaluating the project’s performance and strengthening future interventions.
He urged participants to undertake an honest and objective assessment of the project’s implementation while generating practical and actionable recommendations that would further promote equitable access to quality education for adolescent girls in Sokoto State.
Also speaking, the Component Lead for Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mainasara Muhammad Usman, appreciated stakeholders for their commitment to the success of the AGILE Project. He noted that the review workshop provides an opportunity to evaluate achievements recorded across various components, reflect on lessons learned, identify implementation gaps, and develop strategies for more effective project execution.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Teachers Service Board, Aishatu Zarummai; the Director of Mobilisation, Rabi Muhammad Gwadabawa, who represented the Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); the Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Aliyu Shehu; the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education (SAME), Dr. Nura Bello Abubakar; the Chairman of CONSS; and other development partners and education stakeholders.
The speakers unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the AGILE Project and advancing girl-child education through stronger collaboration and sustained stakeholder engagement.
The workshop also featured presentations by component leads highlighting achievements recorded under various intervention areas of the AGILE Project. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and technical deliberations aimed at identifying solutions to implementation challenges and improving the sustainability and impact of the project.
The remaining sessions of the workshop will focus on technical presentations, group discussions, monitoring and evaluation reviews, and strategic planning to further strengthen the implementation of AGILE interventions and enhance educational opportunities for adolescent girls across Sokoto State.
The AGILE Project, supported by the World Bank, is a flagship education intervention focused on increasing access to secondary education, improving learning environments, and empowering adolescent girls with the knowledge and opportunities needed to reach their full potential.
