ADC Reportedly Courts Gawuna for Kano Governorship Race Ahead of 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is reportedly making strategic moves to convince former Kano State APC governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, to contest the 2027 governorship election under its platform.
According to an Exclusive report by Daily Nigerian Newspaper, senior figures within the party have opened discussions with key allies of the former deputy governor in an effort to secure his acceptance of the ADC ticket in Kano State.
Sources familiar with the talks revealed that the party has proposed several political incentives, including opportunities for Gawuna’s loyalists to secure nominations for State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats.
The ADC is also said to have pledged substantial financial support for his campaign if he agrees to join the race.
Among those reportedly leading the negotiations are former Sokoto State governor, and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, and former ambassador, Faruk Yabo.
Although Gawuna has repeatedly reaffirmed his loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya movement, insiders disclosed that the persistent lobbying and political promises from the ADC have sparked renewed discussions within his camp.
Party insiders further claimed that the ADC has delayed announcing the winner of its Kano governorship primary between Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Little in order to finalise arrangements aimed at bringing Gawuna into the fold.
Gawuna, who contested the 2023 Kano governorship election on the platform of the APC, remains a major political force in the state with considerable grassroots influence.
Political analysts believe his popularity makes him a strong contender against the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in the 2027 election.
He had also been mentioned as a possible governorship aspirant under the NDC before the party leadership reportedly settled for Aminu Abdussalam as its preferred candidate.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Gawuna nor ADC officials had publicly reacted to the reported discussions.
