7 Die, Many Injured in Ghastly Kebbi Road Accident

Seven persons, including a young girl, have lost their lives while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday in Kebbi State.
The fatal crash took place at Giron Masa along the busy Kontagora–Sokoto highway in Shanga Local Government Area at about 2:30 p.m., according to eyewitness accounts.
Sources revealed that about 20 passengers were onboard the ill-fated vehicle, which was reportedly traveling from Lagos in southwestern Nigeria to Zamfara State when the accident happened.
Though the exact cause of the crash has yet to be officially confirmed, eyewitnesses attributed it to possible overspeeding and loss of control, common factors associated with accidents along the route.
The victims who died in the crash were buried later on Tuesday evening in accordance with Islamic rites, while those injured are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Yauri.
Medical personnel at the facility described the condition of some of the victims as critical, raising concerns over a possible increase in the death toll.
Vice Chairman of Yauri Local Government Area, Aliyu Musa Rasu who coordinated the rescue efforts, confirmed that local authorities and volunteers swiftly moved to evacuate victims from the scene.He added that relatives of some of the victims have already arrived in Yauri, while others are still on their way to identify and attend to their loved ones.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) kebbi state sector command has consistently warned motorists against overspeeding, and other forms of reckless driving, urging strict compliance with road safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
