The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo, has resigned his membership of the party.
Goronyo conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated August 30, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Goronyo Ward in Goronyo Local Government Area.
He stated that his resignation takes effect from August 31, 2026 and attributed the decision to personal reasons.
“I hereby formally notify you of my intention to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Goronyo Ward, Goronyo Local Government Area, effective from today, 31st August, 2026.
“The reason for my resignation is purely personal” he said.
The outgoing chairman thanked the PDP leadership and members for giving him the opportunity to serve, noting that he valued the experiences gained during his time with the party.
He further requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register.
Goronyo’s resignation is a major development within the Sokoto PDP, coming at a critical period as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His exit is expected to heighten uncertainty within the opposition party and could fuel further discussions over its leadership, direction and political strategy in the state.
The development may also lead to fresh alignments and reactions among stakeholders as the PDP continues to navigate its internal challenges in Sokoto.
