Four Killed, School, Hospital Damaged as Rainstorm Ravages Sokoto Communities
A powerful rainstorm accompanied by strong winds has claimed the lives of four people, injured several others, and displaced hundreds of residents across communities in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The disaster, which struck on Saturday, caused widespread destruction to homes and public facilities, including a primary school and a hospital. Communities affected include Mallamawa, Mai Mushe, Kaura, Sabon Gari, Rungin Tsamiya, and other neighbouring settlements.
Following the incident, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, carried out an on-the-ground assessment to evaluate the level of damage and identify the urgent needs of affected residents.
According to NEMA’s preliminary findings, hundreds of households were impacted, with many homes either destroyed or badly damaged. The agency also confirmed that four people lost their lives while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
NEMA said the assessment is part of efforts to facilitate prompt emergency intervention and the distribution of relief materials to victims. The agency added that it will continue to collaborate with the Sokoto State Government and relevant authorities to provide humanitarian assistance while further assessments are ongoing.
