Spain are the new kings of world football after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a dramatic FIFA World Cup final that was decided in extra time at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

The highly anticipated clash between two football powerhouses lived up to expectations, with both teams displaying tactical discipline, determination and moments of brilliance. Despite La Roja dominating possession and creating the better chances throughout the contest, Argentina’s resilient defence and the heroics of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez kept the score level after 90 minutes.

With the match seemingly destined for penalties, Spain finally found the breakthrough in the 106th minute of extra time. Substitute Ferran Torres produced the decisive moment, firing a powerful left-footed strike into the roof of the net to send Spanish supporters into wild celebrations.

Argentina’s hopes of mounting a comeback suffered a major setback after Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time, leaving the South American giants with ten men as they chased an equaliser. Despite their fighting spirit, Lionel Scaloni’s men could not break down Spain’s disciplined defence before the final whistle.

The victory marks Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title after their triumph in 2010 and crowns an outstanding tournament in which Luis de la Fuente’s side combined defensive solidity with attacking flair. Spain finished the competition unbeaten, defeating France in the semi-finals before overcoming Argentina in the final.

For Argentina, the defeat ends their reign as world champions after an impressive campaign. Led by captain Lionel Messi, La Albiceleste fought bravely but were ultimately denied a fourth World Cup crown by a Spanish side that proved superior on the night.

Spain’s triumph will be remembered as one of the defining moments in the nation’s football history, as La Roja reclaimed football’s greatest prize and confirmed their place among the sport’s elite.
