Abdulaziz Launches ‘Gani Ya Kori Ji’ Campaign to Showcase Tinubu’s Projects Across Northern Nigeria
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Enlightenment, Malam Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, has launched the “Gani Ya Kori Ji” (Seeing is Believing) campaign, an initiative aimed at giving journalists, social media influencers and other stakeholders firsthand access to key infrastructure and development projects executed by the Federal Government across Northern Nigeria.
Abdulaziz unveiled the initiative on Monday during the maiden Arewa Media Summit held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, describing the campaign as a practical response to the gap between government performance and public awareness.
He explained that the project inspection tour would allow media practitioners and digital content creators to independently verify ongoing and completed projects before reporting to the public.
“The Gani Ya Kori Ji initiative is intended to showcase landmark projects executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors across Northern Nigeria that have not received the public attention they deserve,” Abdulaziz said.
According to him, despite substantial investments in roads, railways and other development projects across the region, many Nigerians remain unaware of the progress because of inadequate public communication.
He noted that the initiative is designed to promote evidence-based reporting by allowing participants to witness projects firsthand instead of relying on secondhand information.
Speaking on the theme of the summit, “Government-Citizen Accord: Accountability, Responsibility and Ethical Media Practice,” Abdulaziz said government, citizens and the media all have complementary roles in strengthening democracy.
“Government has the responsibility to provide timely and transparent information, citizens must engage constructively, while the media should continue to serve as the bridge between leaders and the people through factual, balanced and ethical reporting,” he stated.
The presidential aide also called on social media influencers to uphold professional standards by verifying information before publication, warning against spreading content capable of creating division, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
“We cannot discuss ethics today without recognising the influence of social media. Those who command large audiences must see themselves as custodians of public peace, not just content creators. Fact-check before you post and avoid amplifying information capable of undermining national unity,” he said.
Abdulaziz further disclosed that over 100 All Progressives Congress (APC) social media communicators underwent training ahead of the summit to improve their capacity to effectively communicate government policies, programmes and achievements while promoting responsible information dissemination.
Speaking on the inclusive nature of the summit, Abdulaziz said the organisers deliberately selected panelists from diverse religious, ethnic and political backgrounds, including individuals known for their criticism of the ruling APC and the government.
“We intentionally brought together people from different faiths, ethnic backgrounds and political persuasions, including critics of the APC and the government. Our objective is to encourage honest conversations, promote accountability and demonstrate that this platform is open to every constructive voice committed to the development of Northern Nigeria and the country at large,” he said.
The summit converged media owners, journalists, broadcasters, digital content creators, academics, policymakers and communication professionals from across Northern Nigeria to explore ways of strengthening ethical journalism, public accountability and the relationship between government and citizens.
