The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, on Thursday commissioned the 14.5 kilometres Zawaiyya-Unguwar Maidaji-Gwangwan Dikko Road in Tambuwal Local Government Area, describing the road infrastructure as critical to economic growth and community development.
The project, executed by the Sokoto State Government at a cost of about N4.53 billion under the 9 Smart Innovative Agenda of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, is aimed at improving connectivity and easing transportation for rural communities.
During his one day official visit to Sokoto State Governor Idris also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for two additional road projects in Shagari Local Government Area-the 7.5 kilometre Kajiji-Sanyinnawal Road and the 13.5-kilometre Mandera-Darin Guru-Jabo Road.
Speaking at the event Idris thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the invitation, saying it reflected the strong and cordial relationship between Kebbi and Sokoto states. He stressed that roads play a vital role in improving access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets, and other essential services, particularly in rural communities.
He commended the Sokoto governor for prioritising infrastructure development, noting that both Sokoto and Kebbi are predominantly agrarian states where improved road networks are essential for agricultural productivity and economic growth.
The Kebbi governor urged residents to safeguard public infrastructure, stressing that such projects are funded with public resources and should be protected for the benefit of present and future generations.
“We must develop the culture of protecting public infrastructure, as they are provided with the resources of the people” he said.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu praised Idris for honouring the invitation within 49 hours describing the relationship between Sokoto and Kebbi as one of unity and shared purpose.
He said the newly commissioned and proposed road projects would improve access to markets, create economic opportunities, and enhance the livelihoods of residents across the benefiting communities.
Governor Aliyu added that his administration would continue investing in road infrastructure, revealing that several projects had already been completed and commissioned, while others were progressing across the state.
The Sokoto governor also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as purposeful leadership and reaffirmed his administration’s support for the Federal Government’s development policies and programmes.
