NDC Files Appeal Against Court Ruling, Assures Members Party Remains Validly Registered
Senator Henry Serieke Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that the party has filed an appeal against a recent court ruling alongside an application for a stay of execution, insisting that the NDC remains a duly registered political party.
Dickson said the appeal and accompanying applications had been served on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant officials, urging the electoral body to act in accordance with the law.
He stated that the party had already concluded its nomination processes across the country, with candidates emerging through primaries monitored by INEC.
According to him, the only outstanding process is the administrative submission of candidates’ names through the INEC portal.
Dickson disclosed that the names of the NDC presidential candidate and himself had already been uploaded to the INEC portal, while that of the vice-presidential candidate would be submitted after the completion of the required documentation. He added that the upload of candidates for other elective positions is also ongoing within the timelines provided by INEC.
The NDC leader urged members not to panic, noting that the party still has sufficient time to submit the names of its National Assembly, governorship and State House of Assembly candidates before the deadlines.
He also acknowledged concerns arising from the party’s primary elections, describing the process as imperfect but assuring members that reconciliation efforts had commenced. Dickson promised that all aspirants would be integrated into the party’s campaign structures and committees.
Dickson thanked Nigerians for their support and commended INEC for what he described as professionalism in implementing court directives, while expressing confidence that the judiciary would determine the pending legal issues in accordance with the law.
He concluded by reaffirming the NDC’s commitment to Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and urged democratic institutions to remain impartial in safeguarding the country’s electoral process.
