Oyo Government Lifts Curfew in 10 LGAs After Kidnap Incident
The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew earlier imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The decision was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who said residents of the affected communities are now free to resume their normal daily activities.
The government thanked residents for their patience, cooperation, and understanding during the period of the curfew, adding that security agencies are continuing efforts to resolve the kidnapping incident and restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
The lifted curfew applies to Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba local government areas.
The curfew was imposed after gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, on May 15, abducting 45 pupils and teachers.
One of the kidnapped teachers, identified as a Mathematics teacher, was later reported to have been killed by the abductors, heightening concerns over security in the area.
