Sokoto Police to Clamp Down on Unregistered Vehicles, Concealed Number Plates

The Sokoto State Police Command has announced plans to begin strict enforcement against vehicles operating without registration number plates and those displaying concealed, altered, defaced, or obscured number plates across the state.

The announcement was made in a public statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa.

According to the Command, the enforcement exercise is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is aimed at strengthening public safety, enhancing intelligence-led policing, and preventing the use of unidentifiable vehicles in criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that the operation is intended to improve security and ensure compliance with existing laws rather than inconvenience law-abiding citizens.

Vehicle owners and operators were urged to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with approved number plates.

The police also warned owners of vehicles with covered, altered, defaced, or obscured number plates to regularize their documents immediately or risk prosecution and other legal sanctions.

The Command assured residents that the exercise would be carried out professionally, transparently, and in accordance with the law, while calling on the public to cooperate with security personnel to ensure its success.

The Sokoto State Police Command further reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and urged all road users to comply with the directive in the interest of public safety and national security.
