The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sokoto State Branch, has conducted an induction programme for newly appointed management staff and newly elected executive members as part of efforts to strengthen leadership capacity and improve humanitarian service delivery across the state.

The programme, held at Sokoto Guest Inn, followed a bye-election conducted to fill vacant positions within the branch. The event brought together national officials of the Society and key stakeholders to familiarize the new officers with the principles, responsibilities, and operational guidelines of the Red Cross Movement.

Speaking during the induction, the National Secretary General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Dr. Abubakar Ahmad Kende, stressed the importance of commitment, accountability, teamwork, and dedication in advancing humanitarian activities nationwide.

Dr. Kende stated that the induction was aimed at equipping the newly inducted officials with the leadership skills and operational knowledge required for effective service delivery.

He commended the Sokoto State Branch for its contributions to humanitarian service, emergency response, volunteer development, and community support, while urging the officials to uphold the core principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and voluntary service.

“Efforts to stem national calamities are the responsibility of everyone,” he said.

He added that with support from the IFRC through the Rapid Response to Risk (RRR) Flooding Initiative, the branch has continued to strengthen disaster response and community resilience against flood-related risks.

The chairman also acknowledged ICRC support towards the renovation of the branch secretariat and salary support for management staff.

He charged the newly inducted officials to remain disciplined, transparent, and committed to advancing the mission of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
