Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, and Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, Walin Sokoto, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent bandit attack on Dan Gulbi Village in Tureta Local Government Area, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 17 people.

Dan’iya described the attack as tragic and heartbreaking, saying it highlights the persistent security challenges facing communities across Sokoto State and the country at large.

In a statement issued by his Press Secretary and Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC candidate extended condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Tureta Local Government Area, and the government and people of Sokoto State.

“Every life lost to insecurity is a tragedy for our nation. No family should have to endure the pain of losing loved ones to violent attacks.
The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and must be pursued with utmost commitment and urgency” he stated.

Dan’iya expressed concern over reports that some of the victims were visitors who had returned home to celebrate the Eid el Kabir festivities with their families, describing the incident as particularly painful given the significance of the season.

He stressed the need for a more coordinated, proactive and sustainable approach to tackling insecurity, involving federal, state and local stakeholders.

According to him, the continued attacks on communities demonstrate the failure of both the APC led Federal Government and the Sokoto State Government to adequately address the security situation.

“The continued loss of innocent lives underscores the need for renewed commitment, stronger security coordination, improved intelligence gathering, community engagement and adequate support for security agencies. Our people deserve to live, work and travel without fear” he said.

The ADC flag bearer called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, youth vulnerability and the growth of criminal networks.
He also urged security agencies to ensure that those behind the attack are apprehended and prosecuted, while measures are put in place to prevent future occurrences.

Dan’iya noted that security must remain a top priority for any government, stressing that meaningful development cannot take place in an atmosphere of fear and violence.

“Security must remain at the heart of governance. Development cannot thrive where communities live under constant threat. Our people deserve peace, stability and confidence in the institutions responsible for their protection” he added.

The ADC candidate reiterated his commitment to prioritising security if elected governor in 2027, pledging to work closely with traditional institutions, community leaders and security agencies to strengthen local security structures and support initiatives aimed at addressing insecurity at its roots.

He also urged citizens to remain law abiding and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could help safeguard communities.

Dan’iya prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them Aljannatul Firdaus and give their families the strength to bear the loss.

“The people of Sokoto are resilient. Together, through unity, responsible leadership and collective action, we can overcome these challenges and build a safer and more prosperous future for all” he said.
